Vintage Valentines

I found a packet of vintage valentines, a calling card or two and little story coloring books with black and white illustrations that I wanted to use in a photo scrapbook at a flea market in the town my husband’s family reunion was at this last weekend. I just love those old illustrations and I couldn’t resist (Psst! I became a Flea Market Warrior when the cashier said he was supposed to sell each Valentine at $8.00 apiece when the zip bag clearly held the tag and the Valentines were not marked individually. He eventually gave in and sold me the whole packet for the stated price.)

EXTRA! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT IT! Names transcribed from back of valentines and published in the Missouri State Genealogical Association's newsletter.

Our Church Family Quilt

Our Church Family Quilt: A Warm Treasure From Heaven

By Dolores J. Rush. 2008.

Our church family is like a patchwork quilt,
Begun some fifty years ago and designed with love.
It is a godly pattern, rich in memories,
Sewn by the Creator above.

Patiently weaving the fabric of our lives,
He stitches us together with golden threads that endure,
While challenges have added strength
To make our inheritance secure.

God pieced hearts together into blocks
Surrounded by His grace and care
And tied it through the batting of his comfort
Into a cozy coverlet we share.

He embroidered glimmering threads across the top
And sewed on elegant lace; binding us into one.
One family, composed of created people,
Made beautiful by his Son.

Yes, a patchwork of people, related by faith
Women, children, and men.
Warm treasure from heaven, this family quilt --
A legacy from Him.

Baby Shower Invitation

We’re celebrating new life with a baby shower at church. Here’s the invitation I received to the party!

To make = take a large square cocktail napkin, and fold in half to make a triangle. Then fold the three points into a diaper shape and pin with a large safety pin. Computer-generate or stamp a Baby Shower invitation in matching ink on another piece of paper, cut out and insert into diaper. Hold the invitation in place with a mini-clothespin (or glue stick).

The napkin diaper can also be used as a mint or nut cup for the baby shower as well. Just pour a small amount into the diaper and line up on a doily covered tray to serve. Really cute!
